Ants follow established chemical trails between a food or moisture source and the colony. Wiping the surface may remove visible ants without addressing the source or route.

Yes, when the inspection supports it. Some problems need targeted interior work, some are driven mainly by exterior pressure, and others benefit from a combined approach.
When do I need a recurring program?

Are carpenter ants different?
Yes. Carpenter ants are larger and are associated with nesting in wood, often where moisture or damage is present. A closer inspection helps distinguish them from smaller nuisance ants.
